Getting Furry with Kitty :: Giveaway

So in 7 weeks [doesn't time fly :-)] The Cold Kiss of Death :: Spellcrackers.com book 2 :: is released into the wilds of book shops and online booksellers, and to continue my celebratory giveaways to help get the word out, here's this weeks contest - Getting Furry with Kitty*!

I love Carrie Vaughn's Kitty the Werewolf books, Kitty is one of my most favourite characters, as are werewolves in general. But when it came to writing my own books and deciding on what paranormal creatures would inhabit my world - and whilst I have fae that can take the shape of animals, such as kelpies and phoukas - I decided against werewolves for one very good reason.

Wolves are extinct in the wild in the UK**

My spellcrackers.com books are set in the UK and wolves have been extinct here for at least a couple of hundred years, thanks to a combination of humans hunting them and their natural habitats disappearing [again due to humans]. Doing a bit of googling, some extensive research I've found some info which gives a rough idea of when these beautiful animals probably died out in various parts of the British Isles.

Wales: possibly in the 12th century
England: 1500-1550
Scotland: 1680-1769
Ireland: 1710-1770

So sadly, the only way werewolves are likely to appear in my books are if they're tourists.

An American Werewolf in London***

But onto this week's giveaway. To win your choice of one of Carrie Vaughn's werewolf books plus a signed copy of either The Sweet Scent of Blood or The Cold Kiss of Death leave me a comment telling me your favourite werewolf from fiction, TV or film.

I comment = 1 entry

Please help me spread the word about the release of The Cold Kiss of Death and the giveaways with a mention of the giveaway on your blog/live journal/myspace/facebook/twitter/etc [post the link to the mention into the comments again] and win yourself more entries into this week's giveaway :-) 1 link = 1 entry

Which means you could end up with more entries into the metaphorical hat, so what are you waiting for? Get posting and linking!! Good Luck!!

x/posted to my blog: leave a comment here or there. Contest ends end of day [anywhere] Wednesday 3rd June 2009.

* Don't you just love a werewolf called Kitty. LOL!

** I know, I have vampires, and faeries, and goblins, and trolls, and none of them are real [no really they're not ... unless of course, you know different :-)] so why should I worry about not having werewolves, just because wolves are extinct here - well, no one ever said this writing business was logical, did they?! LOL!

*** not that this picture in any way impugns any American tourist that has ever visited, or will ever visit London.
David Naughton in the flesh! What a hottie!

Apparently it's being considered in Scotland [which would be fantastic :-)]

*pokes* Do I have to read your first book before the second? My friend still has my copy of your first *grumble* but I've your second one all ready to be read... =D

My favourite werewolf is Oz from Buffy because I had a HUGE thing for Seth Green when I was a little 'un. ♥ I love Patrica Briggs' werewolves, and Rachel Vincent's werewolves are really awesome too.

I may have to give Ms Vaughn's books a go, they look pretty good :)

Yep, Seth Green is hot! He's got that whole laid back coolness going on *g*. And yes, you can read book 2 before book 1 [they're a series, not a trilogy, so each has a stand alone plot, just the characters' stories move on and evolve with each book :-)]

Hee! I love the Kitty Norville books though I've been missing Cormac. :(

Gosh, my favourite werewolf? Uh, probably Charles from Patricia Briggs' Alpha & Omega series...maybe. That's my answer for now, at least. :D
May. 30th, 2009 08:54 am (UTC)
I've only read the short story of Charles and Anna, but yep, it made me really look forward to reading A&O. And Cormac ... *sighs*

Adam and Charles, Patricia Briggs' series
Del-Rey Delgato, Coyote's Mate by Lora Leigh (though technically a coyote not a wolf)

Nice icon! And I think werewolves would probably travel much easier than vamps, they don't have that whole sunlight problem *g*
May. 30th, 2009 12:37 pm (UTC)
Oh I agree with Lemmythewolfboy George is one of the best new werewolves.

My favourite were
- I'm torn, I really enjoyed Kelley Armstrong's Elena in the first two books of the Otherworld series, but over all, for consistency Charlaine Harris' Sam.

(Calvin Norris is a well rounded character, and Quinn makes me think of China Mielville....)

'Quinn makes me think of China Mielville' Yes! He does! *g*
I love Sam, and he's my fav non vamp character in the Sookie books :-)
May. 30th, 2009 01:58 pm (UTC)
My favorite werewolf is Kitty actually. I love her stories. My second is Elena and Clay from the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong.
Jun. 1st, 2009 05:24 pm (UTC)
I think Kitty is probably my fav female werewolf too, possibly becasue we see more of her than Elena : -)

Favorite Werewolf
My favorite werewolf is in the movie "The Howling", Karen White (Dee Wallace-Stone) who was crying on television before being killed.

Re: Favorite Werewolf
I've yet to see The Howling, I'm the wussy sort that likes to read horror, instead of watching it, that way I can turn my imagination off if need be. LOL

I think my favorite werewolf would have to be Gabriel van Helsing. :D Of course that could be because he's really Hugh Jackman so that could explain a few things, lol.
